Tatler and Reveal codes and conventions

1) How many of the magazine cover key conventions feature on these editions of Tatler and Reveal?
  • Variety of fonts (serif to show class and sans serif to show they're "cool")
  • Conventionally placed title/ masthead
  • Cover lines
  • A deliberate colour palette
  • Strap lines
  • Cover model
  1.    direct eye contact
  2.    placed just above the centre
  3.    Shot professionally

2) What is the font choice used in the title and what does this choice connote?

The serif font implies class and sophistication.

3) What font is used for the cover lines? What does that choice connote?

The sans-serif fonts used for the cover lines aims to present the magazine as modern and up to date with trends.

4) How do the cover lines appeal to the Tatler target audience?
The cover lines appear to be very minimal and use economical language.

5) What are the connotations of the Tatler colour scheme on this particular front cover?
The light and almost pastel colours make this cover look refreshing and delicate whilst the pink lettering stands out on the page. It also adds a touch of femininity.

 6) How is the central image designed to create interest in the magazine? Find three reasons for your answer. (E.g. Mise-en-scene such as props, costume and make-up, body position, facial expression)
The heavy use of eye makeup directs the reader's eyes to the model's eyes. Embroidery and pearls are also traditionally 'posh' things which they've tried to modernise by utilising a low neck line, (what looks like) dreadlocks and a bedazzled choker.
