The Hunger Games Representation of Teenagers

Firstly finish The Hunger Games research task (see earlier blog post).

Then, focussing on the teenage characters (below) begin to build a detailed description of how they are represented in the film. Refer to scenes from the film to back up what you write about each character.

  1. Katniss
  2. Peeta
  3. Gale
  4. Cato
  5. Clove
  6. Thresh
  7. Marvel
  8. Glimmer
  9. Foxface

See brief example below.

Katniss is represented as being very resourceful. One example is that she is highly skilled at climbing trees. This helps her numerous times in the film, most notably when she flees from Cato's group whilst injured. She has the sense to tie herself to the branch so that she won't slip and fall if she drifts asleep. This shows the audience she is adept at surviving outdoors and that she should be taken seriously by the other competitors in the Hunger Games.

This should be one of many things you could write about Katniss. You need to do this for all the characters. Some characters will require less detail than others depending on how important they are to the plot of the film.

Audience

Choose two magazines that appeal to different ages. Analyse the covers in terms of audience appeal. Use LIAR and magazine terminology to help with this. Layout both images on a landscape word doc. and label appropriately. You can of course choose your own magazines (the ones below are just examples).
